What motivated you to become a designer (or current role?)?

Growing up I always had a creative spirit that I could not shake. My mom was a realtor and I got to see a lot of nice homes which made me want to design homes. Eventually I would work in many other industries before finally pivoting to architecture realizing that I was always unhappy when I did not have a creative outlet in what I was doing.

What does successful workplace culture mean to you?

A successful workplace culture to me is one that enables their employees to grow personally and professionally, is diverse culturally, values the voices of all employees and minimizes toxic morale by maintaining open door policies.

What would you be doing if you were not working in this industry?

If I was not working in architecture I think I may have gone the property management/real estate route. I was actually licensed as a property manager in Florida for 2 years before moving to Boston. At that time I was learning about investing in real estate and started networking with other investors in the area.

Do you have a talent (outside of being your talented self at Bergmeyer) that you are proud of?

My biggest talent is photography. About 10 years ago I got a DSLR and really started practicing and watching online tutorials. Eventually I joined a camera club in hopes that I would grow further in photography but the club I joined was more geared to retires and seniors. I also like to sketch from time to time. I usually sketch objects with high contrast and detail using only charcoal.

Where do you feel most at home?

In tropical settings. Palm trees, white sand beaches with warm weather and the sound of waves crashing…ahhhhh

What is your proudest moment?

Catching my daughter when she was born. Being able to be the first person she saw as she entered this world was a joyful and emotional experience. That memory will last with me for the rest of my life.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?

I was at a really fancy food tasting while on my honeymoon in Greece when I tried rabbit. I was trying to be all sophisticated eating at this fancy restaurant. Even though it was prepared by an amazing chef, it tasted horrible to me.

In a parallel universe, what is your profession?

Actor. I can see myself as an action hero teaming up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Or maybe being in a Marvel movie like Black Panther. Wakanda forever!

What inspires you?

Stories of how people become successful. I love to learn about all the challenges people encounter and what changes they make to overcome them. I usually listen to a podcast called “How I Built This” which tells the stories of entrepreneurs and the companies they’ve created. Also stories of athletes or sports teams beating the odds to win championships get me really motivated.

What was your best Halloween costume?

I dressed up as MC Hammer one year. Had a shiny gold outfit with really baggy pants, fish net shirt, flat top fade haircut, and big flashy gold jewelry. I was in character the whole night going to bars in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. I was literally an overnight celebrity. Life has not been the same since...

What's your favorite season?

I’m a summer baby. I love the warm weather and long days of sunlight.
