What motivated you to become a designer?

Even as a child, the spaces around me always made me curious. I was drawn to how buildings were put together, and how different spaces offered a different sense of scale. From the grand homes of Newport to the towering skyscrapers of New York City – I knew from a young age, our built environment determined how we lived our life. My curiosity grew into a passion and I knew wanted to be a part of creating the spaces we live our lives.

What does successful workplace culture mean to you?

Culture is such a powerful word. It encompasses so much. However, I think it comes down to personal connections.

From the connections you have with your colleagues to the connections you have with your work… how all these relationships balance around each other. They create a web of interactions and experiences that shape your life, and if done well – motivate you to succeed on all levels. If a workplace has a great culture, it should almost be as if you do not notice it. A harmony of growth from which you thrive.

What would you be doing if you were not working in this industry?

Travel Agent. While perhaps a fading field before 2020, and now even more so – I love to plan and organize trips. I’m always made curious by the endless possibilities a new destination has to offer. Working with new people to create life-lasting memories would be as rewarding as designing 3-dimensional space from a set of 2-dimensional drawings!

Do you have a talent (outside of being your talented self at Bergmeyer) that you are proud of?

I’m not sure if this is a talent per se, but I do have a hobby of photography. I have my work on my website: www.stevenseminelli.com.

What’s inside your favorite cocktail?

As a classic guy, I prefer to stick to the classics. Pour me an Old Fashioned and pair it with a handsome chair!

What are your top three travel destinations?

As of right now – top places I love that I have been to: Buenos Aires, Japan, and Italy

The top three for the future are: Scandinavia, Sailing the Greek Isles, and Australia

How do you take your coffee?

Iced and/or frothy! OR at any café in Italy.

In a parallel universe, what is your profession?

My joys of travel and planning have always made me wonder what life would be like as a travel agent. Luckily, with online travel booking, I can get the flavor of planning my own trips and offering suggestions to others.

What's your favorite TV show right now?

Schitts Creek will always make me laugh. Never a dull moment.
Ew, David!
