Bergmeyer Spotlight is an online series of informal interviews with members of the Bergmeyer team. We invite you to meet our office coordinator Imani Thomas, who has been with the firm five months. Here is what Imani had to say during her Spotlight interview:
What do you love about working at Bergmeyer?
I truly appreciate the work-life balance this position affords me since I have two young daughters. I was previously an event planner and the work schedule that came with that wasn't ideal for a new mom. I also love the people I get to work with every day at Bergmeyer. Everyone is very authentic and makes a real effort to be considerate of one another.
Where do you find inspiration?
My mother is my biggest inspiration. She really is amazing and if I could come back in another life I would want to come back as her! She's extremely outgoing, fearless, and very hardworking. Her positivity and belief in me has always kept me going and she's my biggest cheerleader.
What hobbies are you passionate about?
I love to cook and consider myself quite the chicken connoisseur. Off the top of my head I can think of 20 different ways to prepare chicken. Although southern food is my specialty, I also love cooking Italian and Mexican. Bobby Flay is my culinary idol and I'm actually trying to get on the amateur edition of Chopped.
Apart from cooking, I also love dancing even though I can't dance. I'm really interested in learning though, and I'm considering joining a dance academy that specializes in urban/street dancing.
Where is your favorite place you've visited?
I love St. Thomas. It's absolutely gorgeous, the temperature is perfect, and the beaches are beautiful. I first went there in 2011 and I try to go back every year. During my first visit I was especially impressed by the diverse representation in the island's government, and the entire vibe there really made me feel like I was home.
What is the one thing (not essential to survival) that you would want to have with you if you were stranded on a desert island?
Red Hot hot sauce. I actually often think of what I would do, and bring, if I were ever stranded on a desert island. I love hot sauce and since I don't know what I would be forced to eat out there, I feel that hot sauce would make every and any thing taste good and make it bearable for me to survive on.
