The Table at LX launches June 11!

The latest exhibition from Design Museum Boston is launching on Thursday, June 11, 2015. Design for Dining is a public exhibition, distributed across seven restaurants in Boston’s Downtown Crossing neighborhood that will showcase how designers shape the dining experience – from a restaurateur’s vision to the completed dining experience.

Bergmeyer has partnered with Legal Crossing (LX), an urban neighborhood restaurant inspired by the vibrancy of Downtown Crossing, then and now. The restaurant’s proximity to Chinatown has influenced the daring Asian-inspired menu, while a nod to the neighborhood’s colorful Combat Zone past is found in the menu’s playfully named cocktails. A centerpiece of the restaurant’s slick black interior is an abstract painting, at once a landscape and a reclining nude. For Design for Dining, Bergmeyer and LX are amplifying the LX concept for six adventurous diners to experience nightly.

A circular private booth has been introduced into an underutilized corner of the restaurant, fronted by a singular window overlooking Washington Street. Visible from the street through a peep hole, we’ve created the perfect setting for an intimate four course meal specially designed to tantalize all five senses. To enhance the dining experience, dishes are served in the traditional Chinese family style with successive courses introducing new flavors, sounds, scents and textures. Further heightening this tactile experience, the seating utilizes a half dozen textures of hide and the back-lit glass mosaic table top imperceptibly shifts from amber to crimson over the course of the dinner.

For the exhibition, Design Museum Boston has curated seven pairs of design firms and restaurants in the Downtown Boston neighborhood to design a product a new pop-up dining experience: Legal Crossing and Bergmeyer, Bona Pita and Soldier Design, JM Curley and Jaywalk Studios, Mast and NELSON, The Merchant and Payette, Silverstone and Silverman Trykowski Associates, and Sip Wine Bar and Gate 3 Design. Restaurant-goers can look forward to enjoying special menus and drinks while dining within these newly designed experiences from June to November.
