The New York Stock Exchange. The “Big Board”. Fortunes have been made here. But the old iconic building at 11 Wall Street was seriously short on amenity space. There was no place for informal meetings and nowhere for visitors and employees to mix. It was time for Restaurant Associates and Bergmeyer to adjust some options and amend the offer.

Although the NYSE trading floor is a pressure-packed environment, stock trading is all about productive collaboration. The new Exchange Café at the NYSE was designed to be a “third place” within the famed building: a re-imagined dining environment and a natural gathering place. The redesigned space permits staff and visitors to meet and collaborate in groups of various sizes.

To enhance the customer experience, the café was reorganized for better traffic flow and increased operational efficiency. Wifi and electrical outlets were added throughout and the previously limited food service was extended into the late afternoon.

And because traders are notorious for never leaving the floor before the closing bell, the café was designed with exceptionally easy access to expansive reach-in cases and plentiful grab-and-go options to serve the small army of runners who bring lunchtime sustenance to those who diligently watch the ticker tape.
