Zo came to Bergmeyer to craft the entire full-service restaurant experience — from quick lunch counter service, to leisurely sit-down dinners with a fully-stocked bar. They needed a design team that could translate the success of their modest first locations to come up with a new 2,300-square foot dining experience. The goal was to take their quick-service eatery to the next level at the new lifestyle center Assembly Row, located just a few miles north of Boston proper. We were already fans of their food, and knew firsthand the vibe of what they’re going for — they trusted us to see that through.
Bergmeyer teamed up with Zo Restaurant Group to design and develop their newly-expansive restaurant concept, which included a brand refresh and an updated online presence. This was the client’s first full-service restaurant, and our team guided the Zo team throughout the entire process, from the selection of finishes and materials to helping them navigate the nitty-gritty details of construction.
To accommodate a busy lunch rush — for both restaurant back-of-house and food truck preparations — and allow for a more leisurely dining experience, our team designed a kitchen that would support their high-volume prep, while keeping the front of house spacious and inviting. A series of glazed double doors provides access to the outdoor patio and gives the space a light-filled, airy quality, reminiscent of a sunny, open-air Greek marketplace. Copper, stucco, wood, stone, and bright white tiles and walls were carefully selected to invoke Greece’s white-washed homes with blue roofs and doors. The artisan quality of the space creates a warm and inviting environment, complete with a cozy fireplace and dining nooks.
Zo’s new restaurant is sure to win over more devoted fans with their authentic Greek fare in a space that evokes a welcoming Mediterranean experience. The project became such a success that the burgeoning Zo Restaurant Group asked Bergmeyer to design and develop their new Mexican street-style restaurant, Sabroso, also at Assembly Row.
