The 2023 Hip Hop Architecture Camp x Bergmeyer Scholarship + Internship Program

We are excited to announce that the application window for the 2023 Hip Hop Architecture Camp x Bergmeyer Scholarship and Internship Program is now open!
HHAC 2023 Scholarship

Applications are open for submission through April 28. The recipient awarded the honor will receive a $1500 scholarship and a week-long internship with Bergmeyer in the summer of 2023. The recipient will be notified via email in May of 2023.

Now in its second year, the partnership between Bergmeyer and The Hip Hop Architecture Camp (The HHAC) strategically extends support past the financial opportunity of the scholarship with the implementation of the design internship, which provides the student awarded a hands-on experience to learn and develop their skills in architecture, urban planning, and design. Providing students from historically marginalized communities the opportunity to gain real-world experience working in a professional setting is a mission-critical component to Bergmeyer’s approach to furthering equity, diversity, and inclusion through actionable efforts in the architecture and design industries.

“I am extremely honored to partner with Bergmeyer again and build on a long-term relationship with their team, to not only provide a scholarship to a young person looking to study architecture but provide real-world experience and an opportunity to travel to Boston,” said Michael Ford, Founder of The Hip Hop Architecture Camp.

“This is the second year in what will be a long-term partnership to support industry-wide efforts to empower the diverse professionals we introduce to architecture.”

  • Students interested in applying for the Hip Hop Architecture Camp x Bergmeyer Scholarship and Internship opportunity must be current public-school juniors or seniors who plan to enroll at a college or university and major in architecture and/or design at a NAAB accredited School of Architecture in the United States.
  • To be eligible, students must have participated in a Hip Hop Architecture Camp, including the February and March 2023 camp sessions.
  • A one-time scholarship payment of $1500 will be paid directly to the university after the student completes the first school semester.
  • Paid Internship: The scholarship recipient will receive a one-week, paid internship at Bergmeyer’s headquarter office in Boston, MA, during the summer of 2023.
  • Travel: If the scholarship recipient is not located in or around the greater Boston area, all travel and lodging expenses will be paid for the recipient to travel to Boston during the summer of 2023 to participate in the internship at Bergmeyer, including hotel and airfare.
  • If the student is under 18 years old at the selected date/time of the visit to Bergmeyer in the summer of 2023, a parent or legal guardian will be required to accompany the student if travel and lodging are needed depending on the student’s location. The additional expenses for the legal guardian, including hotel and airfare, will also be covered by Bergmeyer.
  • The application period will be open through Friday, April 28, 2023.
  • Application deadline: Friday, April 28 at 5:00 PM EST
  • The winner will be announced via email in May of 2023.

“Michael Ford is truly a revolutionary,” says Bergmeyer's Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, Mike Davis, FAIA, LEED AP. “His approach – using hip-hop culture as a critical lens to introduce Black and Minority youth to the creative potential of architecture and design – is something that virtually no one else is doing. He is single-handedly changing how an entire generation of expressive young Americans sees and understands design as a profession, creating exactly the change that architecture needs right now. Bergmeyer is proud to be able to sponsor his important work.”
