Lakon Paris Patisserie
Transforming a Seaport storefront into a Parisian-inspired patisserie, where every square inch tells a story of French café culture.

Lakon's newest Seaport location captures the essence of Parisian café culture within Boston's most dynamic waterfront district, transforming a compact white-box storefront into an elevated patisserie experience that honors the founder's French culinary training. The intimate space presented unique spatial challenges that demanded creative solutions, with limited square footage, complex back-of-house requirements, and plumbing constraints, our design needed to maximize operational efficiency while maintaining Lakon's signature aesthetic. Building on our ongoing partnership established through a previous project collaboration, this project required innovative approaches to storage, circulation, and equipment placement.
The project centered on a comprehensive interior fit-out that maximized every square inch through innovative vertical design strategies, reflecting Lakon's commitment to craftsmanship in both pastry and space. Key challenges included accommodating essential back-of-house operations for their labor-intensive process, strategically placing equipment like a location-specific ice cream machine, and ensuring smooth customer flow for their grab-and-go model. Our approach emphasized collaboration with the client's vision of creating Instagram-worthy moments while maintaining the traditional techniques and respectful approach to pastry craft that defines their brand, working through multiple counter layout iterations while addressing complex plumbing constraints and accessibility requirements.
The material palette maintains Lakon's commitment to warm, neutral tones that allow their artisanal pastries to take center stage, with brass accents serving as consistent brand elements and carefully selected pendant lighting over the counter creating an intimate focal point. The signature mirror element continues the brand's visual DNA, providing both practical and aesthetic value with integrated menu display, while living elements, real plants and weekly fresh florals from local providers, bring authentic connection to French café tradition. This successful Seaport debut not only established Lakon's presence in a premier Boston location but also created a refined prototype that informs their continued expansion, reflecting our commitment to transforming spatial challenges into distinctive brand experiences.
