When contacted to revamp Onyx Boutique, Bergmeyer set out to craft a space that fosters connection, inspires self-expression, and tells the story of sustainable fashion brands, all while reflecting our client’s personal style and the quality of her products. Onyx owner and self-made fashion maven, Kristin Rinaldi, sought a design partner who could infuse vitality into a blank space, expertly maximizing its potential and transforming its dimensions into a dynamic and engaging environment. She chose us for our extensive retail design expertise and proven ability to transform small spaces into unique, character-filled settings. 
 

Our close collaboration allowed us to deeply understand her brand, resulting in a space that truly reflects her identity and resonates with her customers. We embraced the challenge of transforming a small, 1200-square-foot white box into a vibrant, modern California-cool space that balanced Kristin’s eclectic personal brand as well as the vast collection of revolving brands she sells.

Designed to be welcoming and comfortable, the space is a love letter to her long-standing customers, encouraging longer visits in a more refined environment, and empowering them to find their perfect outfit. Our goal was to make the space both functional and deeply personal, ensuring that Kristin’s brand and her passion for fashion were evident throughout.

Our scope included a comprehensive interior fit-out, custom millwork, and seamless integration of branding throughout the design. We carefully curated visual merchandising, designed inviting windows and signage, and created a cohesive environment that perfectly represented the client’s vision. A blend of natural materials, ample light, soft fabrics, and a high contrast palette creates an oceanside feel with a contemporary edge.

The result is a warm and sophisticated space that offers a refined shopping experience, blending Kristin’s personal style with the fluidity and transformation symbolized by the Onyx name. Reflecting the natural hues of the onyx stone—greens, blacks, and coppers—the store's design resonates with Kristin’s journey from a corporate career to pursuing her true passion. Just like the stone, Onyx as a brand represents this fluidity, delivering fashion that connects diverse individuals and spans across generations.
