Virgin Atlantic Boston Clubhouse
For the worldly Brits at Virgin Atlantic, comfort is king, formality is overrated, and color is de rigeur.

Virgin Atlantic Airways was an ideal client for Bergmeyer. Extremely design-focused, VAA expected every branded environment to strengthen the customer’s impression of their distinct international identity, but to also say something unique about where each Clubroom is in the world. This made for a good challenge.
Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, Logan Airport, Boston
For Logan Airport in Boston, Bergmeyer’s design research began by creating image boards that captured quintessential Bostonian elements. Patterns and materials were then distilled and abstracted so that references to both the historical and modern aspects of the city could emerge. Wood, stone, and stainless steel are arranged in grids, planks, and running bonds that evoke Boston’s trademark brickwork, wrought iron, clapboard, and shingles. Despite the lack of windows, lightness permeates the space from concealed LED sources highlighting the clean, warm finishes.
Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, Liberty Airport, Newark
At Liberty Airport in Newark, NJ, the Bergmeyer design team renovated an existing lounge and began with an entirely different design premise. With less local historical context to work with, the aesthetic reference went more towards Virgin’s home base in the UK. With a distinctly modern British fair, the Liberty Airport clubroom works with high contrast, irreverent juxtapositions of bright colors, and mid-century Modern lighting and furnishings. A playful mock library and custom geometric wall coverings give the space a refreshingly witty sophistication.
